Long-term measurement of railway traffic noise - Part 1: Emissions

Guidelines for evaluating and tracking rail traffic noise emissions are provided by DIN 38452-1. The standard enables the automatic and unobserved measurement of traffic noise emissions for an extended time, often more than four weeks, with the goal of determining the characteristics of rail traffic noise in the near field on open tracks.
At a precise position close to the track, measurement data is gathered using special measuring tools. Three different quality levels are included in the standard's technique for gathering and describing sound events brought on by train traffic. The requirements of the task at hand must be taken into consideration when choosing the right quality level.
The measurement device can record the sound pressure level and other important information for each sound occurrence, regardless of the quality level that is selected. The measurement data may be transferred to a centralized data collection location or retained locally. The gathered data is subjected to systematic examination using predetermined criteria to ensure uniformity and understandability. This enables the recording and presentation of both the distinct acoustic events and their temporal evolution.
