A Security Event Class and namespace are established for Security Log Records by the SMPTE ST 430-5:2011 standard. Its goal is to develop specifications for individual Log Records and collections of these Records (Log Reports), which may be used for security event logging in D-Cinema applications.

This standard's primary goal is to provide useful forensic information about security-critical events by describing the events that the security system logs. The method of communication or the structure of messaging between security devices in a system are not, however, specified. Additionally, it does not specify the format for logging events in a security device's protected storage.

This standard's Security Log Records and Security Log Record Sequences are mostly used for reporting Security Events that have already been captured by the security system. These data users are not part of the security system itself.
