Standard EN SampleParticle Size Analysis - Laser Diffraction Methods
Also Known As:
The ISO 13320:2020 standard provides instructions for measuring particle size distribution using light-scattering properties and instrument certification. The standard is applicable to a variety of two-phase systems, including liquid gas bubbles, suspensions, sprays, aerosols, and powders. It does not, however, include any guidelines on how to assess particle size in particular materials.
This standard is intended for particle sizes roughly between 0.1 m and 3 mm, but it can be expanded below 0.1 m and above 3 mm under the right circumstances and with the right equipment. The size distribution reported is based on the anticipated scattering pattern for the volumetric sum of spherical particles that matches the measured scattering pattern. It does this by using an optical model that assumes a spherical particle form. The resulting particle size distribution for non-spherical particles may not match observations made using other physical concepts, such as sedimentation or sieving.
