Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS) - Geometrical Tolerancing - Tolerances of Form, Orientation, Location, and Run-out
Also Known As:
ISO 1101:2017 is a standard that defines the symbol language and criteria for interpreting workpiece geometrical requirements. It is the foundation for geometrical specifications in a variety of sectors.
The standard offers pictures that show how specifications, including the usage of TEDs (Technical Data Packages), can be completely specified with visible annotation. It is worth noting that other International Standards cited in Clause 2 and Tables 3 and 4 provide more particular information on geometrical tolerancing.
The requirements for indicating geometrical specifications in ISO 1101:2017 are explicit and direct. Alternatively, the same standards might be communicated indirectly by linking them to an ISO 16792-compliant 3D CAD model. In this situation, rather than being indicated by visible annotation, some aspects of the specification may be accessible via query functions or other forms of information interrogation.
