Standard EN SampleIEEE Recommended Practice for Sizing Stand-Alone Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
Also Known As: IEEE Std 1562-2021
The IEEE 1562-2021 standard specifies recommendations and processes for sizing standalone photovoltaic systems. The standard focuses especially on systems in which PV is the sole charging source and an energy storage battery is used. It discusses PV array utilization, battery charge efficiency, and system losses in the context of system sizing.
The standard applies to all stand-alone PV systems that meet the aforementioned criteria, with the exception of PV hybrids and grid-connected systems. It is mostly concerned with lead-acid batteries and excludes other battery types such as nickel-cadmium. However, the standard does not address the sizing of system controllers, inverters, cables, or other system components.
This standard's goal is to increase the performance, cost-effectiveness, and lifespan of stand-alone PV systems. The standard seeks to help designers, manufacturers, system integrators, consumers, and laboratories achieve optimum PV system designs by providing agreed methodologies and procedures for sizing, modeling, and evaluating solar systems.
