IEEE Guide for Measurements of Electromagnetic Properties of Earth Media

Also Known As: IEEE Std 356-2020

The measurement of the electrical characteristics of naturally occurring solids is the main objective of the IEEE 356-2020 standard. The standard does not apply to techniques that map anomalies in the earth's structure unless they are directly connected to electrical qualities. Furthermore, the standard only covers a small portion of numerical techniques for forward and inverse modeling.

This standard was created to act as a reference for a variety of applications that call for ground plane assessment, geological mapping, evaluation of ore-grade quality, determination of moisture content and salinity, propagation prediction and studies, aquifer studies for water search, disposal of nuclear waste, dam location, ground-penetrating radar research, and prospecting activities.
