The specifications and the relationship between temperature and resistance for industrial platinum resistance temperature sensors and thermometers are laid out in the standard IEC 60751:2008. These sensors and thermometers use the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90) to determine the electrical resistance, which is a specified function of temperature. With several tolerance classes, the standard covers temperature ranges from 200 °C to +850 °C.

The original version of the standard and any future revisions are canceled and replaced by this second edition. A new scheme for tolerance classes, the addition of the tolerance acceptance test and the hysteresis test, adjustments to specific tests, and the deletion of appendices are just a few of the modifications made in this technical revision.
