Terrestrial photovoltaic (PV) modules - Design qualification and type approval - Part 2: Test procedures
Also Known As:
The standard IEC 61215-2:2021 specifies the standards for the design qualification and type approval of terrestrial photovoltaic (PV) modules. It focuses on modules intended for long-term operation in open-air settings. The standard applies to a variety of PV module types, including crystalline silicon and thin-film modules.
The primary goal of this standard is to assess the electrical characteristics of modules and verify their capacity to endure extended outdoor exposure. It seeks to deliver reliable and consistent testing procedures while keeping cost and time restrictions in mind.
The second edition of IEC 61215-2, which will be released in 2021, has several substantial technical revisions from the previous edition. These modifications include the addition of cyclic mechanical load testing, a test for detecting potential-induced degradation, and test methods for bifacial and flexible PV modules. The version also corrects the hot spot endurance test for thin-film technologies, adjusts the bypass diode thermal test, and eliminates the nominal module operating test (NMOT) from the standard.
