Electricity Metering - Payment Systems - Part 42: Transaction Reference Numbers (TRN)
Also Known As:
The transaction reference number (TRN) for payment systems used in electricity metering is defined by the standard IEC 62055-42:2022. In markets where various security mechanisms are necessary, it offers a token generation mechanism and token structure for smart prepayment functionality. In order to avoid interference between the two types of tokens, the standard makes sure that the token structure is created to be mutually exclusive with the tokens provided in the IEC 62055-41 standard for payment metering systems.
This document is based on the STS Association's key management services and the DLMS/COSEM security model's key management mechanisms. It makes reference to global STS token standards and, when necessary, takes interworking into account. The IEC 62055-41 tokens and the tokens mentioned in this document, however, cannot communicate with one another.
The token structure, authentication, anti-replay mechanism, token operating model, and protocol are the main topics of the standard. The processing and operation of metering applications, HAN (home area network) interface commands, and WAN (wide area network) interface commands are not covered. Other standards handle these elements. The method for auditing and retrieving data from the meter is not covered by the standard either. This is referred to as a component of the overall metering solution and may make use of DLMS/COSEM protocols.
