Arc Welding Equipment - Part 12: Coupling Devices for Welding Cables
Also Known As:
A standard known as IEC 60974-12:2022 focuses primarily on coupling mechanisms for welding cables used in arc welding and related procedures. The specifications for coupling devices that allow cables to be connected and disconnected without the need for tools are laid out in the standard. The proper electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and safety during welding operations are requirements for such connection devices.
IEC 60974-12:2022, the most recent edition of the standard, is the fourth edition and has major technical updates compared to the edition that was released in 2011. Updated Table 1 now includes a 100% duty cycle, which is one of the noticeable differences. By doing this, it is ensured that the coupling devices are built to resist ongoing welding operations without degrading. Additionally, Annex A has been modified to give consumers more comprehensive information and direction.
