Standard EN SampleCIE Collection in Photobiology and Photochemistry
Also Known As:
The CIE 106:1993 standard is comprised of a series of technical reports and research notes published by various committees and reporters of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) Division 6. These reports were initially published in the CIE Journal between 1986 and 1988 and are now available in this standard as a collection.
The standard covers a wide variety of photobiology and photochemistry subjects. The reports cover topics such as determining ultraviolet action spectra, photokeratitis and photoconjunctivitis (UV-induced inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva of the eye), reference action spectra for UV-induced erythema (skin redness), photobiological effects in plant growth, and the potential link between malignant melanoma (skin cancer) and fluorescent lighting exposure.
The standard also addresses the quantification of optical radiation exposure in the environment as well as the limits of the risk-to-benefit ratio approach in defining the impacts of light and UV radiation. It also specifies the nomenclature to be used in defining photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) for plants, including photon exposure measurements in certain wavelength ranges.
