Standard EN SamplePhysical Attributes of Documents for Microfilming or Scanning: Code of Practice
Also Known As:
A British standard called BS 5444:2008 makes suggestions for the physical characteristics of documents that will be either microfilmed or scanned. The standard stresses the need for accurately capturing data from the original documents and encourages document creators to take the criteria it provides into account.
The standard covers documents that may need to be scanned at a minimum resolution of 200 dots per inch or microfilmed in line with BS ISO 6199. It specifically applies to documents created on computers and hard copies that are destined for microfilm output. It does not, however, apply to forms intended for the electronic processing of user-completed data.
The scope, normative references, terminology and definitions, page structure and content, pictures, print quality, supplemental features, and bibliography are just a few of the elements that make up BS 5444. The standard also makes use of terminology from other publications, including BS ISO 6196 and BS ISO 12651, which deal with micrographics and electronic imaging, respectively.
