The model of a meter as it is understood through its communication interface(s) is described in the BS EN IEC 62056-6-2:2018 standard. The standard uses object-oriented techniques to establish generic building blocks in the form of interface classes, which can be used to describe meters with different levels of capability, ranging from very simple to quite complex.
The standard includes further details on particular interface classes in Annexes A through F. The standard's most recent edition, which was issued in 2018, replaces the one that was first published in 2016. The important technical modifications from the previous version can be found in Annex F. It is a technical revision.
