Standard EN SamplePerformance Criteria for Systems that Estimate the Attenuation of Passive Hearing Protectors for Individual Users
Also Known As:
A system designed to estimate the attenuation of passive hearing protectors for specific users is the topic of the ASA S12.71-2018 standard. FAESs, or field attenuation estimation systems, are the name given to these systems. The standard assigns FAESs a categorization and specifies the performance standards that must be met. Additionally, it describes the evaluation process and statistical computations necessary to ascertain the level of uncertainty surrounding each of the FAES' specific attenuation estimates. The standard also includes a formula for determining a personal attenuation rating (PAR). The attenuation values obtained from FAESs should not be used to replace the information from ANSI/ASA S12.6 or S12.42, nor are they appropriate for labelling the attenuation of hearing protection devices.
